Welcome... And Other Appropriate Pleasantries

This is a sister site, an off-shoot, the offspring or perhaps, simply, the unholy union between the online home of The Book Worm Bookstore and my leaky mind.

It is a place for me to share my thoughts and information in a creative, shiny and sarcastic manner. It is a place where fans of The Book Worm, friends of the Book Worm, Lovers and Haters of The Book Worm can speak freely... Though, the Hater's bits will probably be deleted swiftly and with relish.

It is not a place for you to place an order for books. You may not phrase requests for books that you do not know the title or author of and can only describe with the vaguest "It's about this guy who meets this girl and they fall in love but then they break up but then get back together again"; because I will laugh at you and then delete your comments.

You may, however, feel free to submit informative requests for titles, ordering and general information simply by copy and pasting this link to the store site into your browser: www.thebookwormonline.com

Welcome, friends; you're in for a real... well, I wouldn't say treat, but you get the idea.

Pointless Ramblings

I feel insanely energetic and creative today. I don't know why. If you know me, you know energetic is not my norm. I'm still a little stuffy; leftovers from my week of ick, but other than that, I feel...
Superb.

Not that any of that is in any way relevant to this post. What I wanted to tell you all was that we (the royal "we"; me and all the voices in my head) are bringing back our book clubs at The Book Worm next year. I'm very excited. We'll actually have several; I'm recruiting leaders right now for different genres... it's going to be pretty great.
I can't help but get excited about this. We have an awesome store, in a cool little town that's growing all the time, propelled by a unique, diverse community... we've got great things ahead of us.

An aside: I want to thank everyone who helped put our Cosplay Weekend together. And to everyone who came out to support and participate: You are the bomb. Next year, it'll be even better.

Goodnight fellow Bookworms; until next time.
Go. Read. Enjoy.

It's My Birthday!

Not yet. Like, it's not really my birthday today or anything... But it will be on Sunday!

Woot!

25! Quarter of a century!

This is really just a a kindly worded request to everyone to come out and wish me a happy birthday on Saturday during my Cosplay Weekend Event (wink, wink, nudge, nudge (Yeah? Got any Monty Python fans out there? Huh? Yeah? No? ...Okay then).)

You can have a Harry Potter cupcake with me! Yummmmm.

P.S.
I promise this blog will become a little more blog-like after this big ole' event has come to close. Just... hang in there.

This Probably Isn't Nice But I'm Gonna Say It Anyway

This is a rant.

I just want you all to know that going in... so you're not surprised when you get to the end and are all: "She was just ranting. That was a wast of my time; seriously, I just lost 5 minutes of my life that I will never get back... what a b***." Because, honestly, if I tuned in to a blog expecting something and ended up with what you're about to read, I'd probably say that to the computer screen... and it wouldn't say anything back... because it agreed with me... and sometimes silence speaks volumes.

Anyway...

Dear person:

I get that you probably worked really, really hard on that.

No. You know what? Now that I think about it, you probably didn't. You are probably so full of yourself that you just shot that gleaming bit of epic fail out into the universe and thought it was the greatest thing since the invention of... something that is actually great, and ran with it. But let me tell you something: it is not.

Not even close.

I could do better than that.

And they're aren't all that many things that I'm good at.

A word of advice: get yourself some new, honest friends. Ones who will tell you that you have committed a crime against nature and that there's no shame in that age old adage: Try, try again.

-end of rant-

Goodnight peeps...

It's 12:15-ish... And I'm Laboring To Give You All Pertinent Information. (I Hope You Appreciate This)

Got in from South Carolina late the other night. Still tired but… Oh. My. God. So amazing!
I learned so much and met so many great people; I have so many ideas and so much planning to do.

But, first thing’s first: Cosplay Weekend. It’s still on and still epic.

*Update: Penny Dreadful Productions is judging the costume contest as well as showcasing major amounts of awesome… Seriously, their stuff is like, whoa.

Plus, the (sorta) full list of prizes for the costume contest is now on the Cosplay Page. Check it out… and tell you’re friends! Don’t make me have to come after you, people.

More later.

P.S.
I want to give a ginormous “Thank You!” to Janet Bollum of The Muse Bookstore for making such a great opportunity available to me. …So, thank you.

I Can Haz Talent!

Allow me to share my feeble attempt at a heartwarming, timeless children's bedtime story.

(clears throat)

Once upon a time, there lived a young girl who resided in a small cottage outside the woods with her loving mother.

One day, the young girl decided to go for a walk in the woods, so she kissed her mother goodbye and started into the dense forest.

The young girl was never more happy than when she was surrounded by beautiful trees, following the lattice of sun and shadow across the forest floor.  So caught up was she in the pleasure of it all, she soon lost her way.

As the day wore on and evening drew toward night, the young girl began to fear that she would never find her way back home; but as she stood and listened to the sounds of the night, she could hear her mother's voice, calling to her through the trees.

The young girl climbed the closest tree and, from the topmost branch, spied the warm lights of home and her loving mother at the door, waiting to welcome her.

With a smile in her heart, the young girl descended the tree and started for home.

And then a monster ate her.

The End.

Do These Pants Make My Butt Look Nerdy...?

Let's get this part out of the way...

Cosplay, short for "costume play", is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea.
(from wikipedia)

Now...

I've been interested in cosplay for several years, but have lacked the intestinal fortitude to try it. Dragon-Con has been a dream of mine but I have issues with large crowds in enclosed spaces.
...
Scratch that; it's not the large crowds in enclosed spaces, it's the panic attacks caused by the large crowds in enclosed spaces that puts the brakes on that particular dream.

So I'm going to do the next best thing: host a cosplay event at the BW.
(I know; awesome!)

I've got the date set (October 15th) and a couple of artists to come in; but it's mostly just a chance for me to nut-up, put on my chosen character and friggin' own!

You and me babes; we're gonna rock.

So; this is the first official announcement: The Book Worm's first (hopefully) annual Cosplay Event will be held October 15th. I'll be posting a schedule... sometime... later... once I figure out what it is.

Until next time...

Oh, and, if anybody has suggestions on things they'd like to see happen at this shin-dig; you know what to do.

What The...

It's 2:05 in the morning and I'm shaking my head in disbelief as my fingers tap, tap, tap away at the keys.

Why am I doing this instead of sleeping? I mean, I have to get up in the morning, I have to be at the BW... I SHOULD BE ASLEEP.

You wanna know why I'm not asleep right now?  Why I'm not exploring the deepest, creepiest, salty, chocolate, clown faced, octopus filled corners of my subconscious? (You probably don't, but I'm going to tell you anyway.) Because I was working; on projects I created for myself... I did this to myself.

Moral of this non-story?

I. Am. A. Masochist.

Pleasant dreams to all of you who have already toddled off to dream land; here's hoping yours is slightly less inhabited with clowns.

The Night Owls are Pooping in the Corners of My Mind

I'm still in the process of putting this blog together; I have some pretty sweet ideas for it, too. And just like my blog, I feel like my town... our town, is on the verge of greatness. ( I do think highly of myself, don't I?)

And I'm not talking about the usual yarn and spiel you get from every other small town; I really do feel like we're on the edge of something fantastic. Every day, I see more and more people out, just enjoying themselves, with their friends and their families. I've been with The BW for just over a year and in that short period I've felt the shift and it excites me to no end. We're creating something, all of us, you included, together; we're becoming more diverse, more open, and it's a beautiful thing!

Is it just me? Am I talking out of my bum because I'm so tired my eyes are cross, or do you all feel it too?

Schizophrenia By Way Of Welcome

In a conversation between Lady B. and Self:

Lady B.: Welcome to your new webpage on Blogger, Self.

Self: What?

Lady B. (smiling curtly): Welcome to your new page.

Self (looking around): Really?

Lady B. (smiling; barely): You seem displeased.

Self: You mean I have something else I have to keep up with, now?

Lady B. (bristling): You don't have to; you get to. (Spreads her arms and looks around.)
This is your space. You can do with it what you will, say what you like. This is your moment, your chance to shine, to be all that-

Self: All that I can be, blah, blah, blah. No, that's not what this is; this is just one more thing in a long list of things that I do not have time for.

Lady B.: ...I worked very hard on this, you know.

Self: And that's my problem...?

Lady B. (sighs): Fine. Take it down.

Self: No, no; it's finished now... I may as well keep it. I'll just stop sleeping all together.

Lady B.: Now you're trying to make me feel guilty! I cannot believe this!

Self: No, I'm not. I'm really not.

Lady B.: You are! Oh, of all the rotten things...

Self: Look, I'm sorry; I'll do it, okay? (Looks at her feet; scrapes across the floor with the toe of her shoe) It might be kinda nice, actually.

Lady B.: Do you mean it?

Self (shrugs): Yeah.

Lady B. (sighs): Shall we try it again, then?

Self: Sure.

Lady B. (Clears throat, brushes invisible dust from the waist of her skirts and curtseys): Self; welcome to your new page on Blogger.

Self: (bows at the waist): Thank you, Lady B.; it's a pleasure.

Lady B.: I'm sorry the space is so barren, but I thought you might want to put your own touches on the place.

Self: Thank you; but I feel this is something we should tackle together.

Lady B. (curtseys): I would be delighted.

(Lady B. and Self turn to face the audience and wave.)

Lady B.: Welcome to Lady B. Speaks.

Self: I'll be updating... whenever I feel like it.

Lady B. (rolls her eyes): We hope to see you often and anticipate your participation.

Self (sighs and turns to Lady B.):  What normal person talks like that?

Lady B.: What normal person holds a ten minute conversation with themselves then posts it in a thematic stage format for the general public to read?

Self (shrugs and nods): ...Touché.

Lady B. and Self: Goodnight everyone!
